Welcome to Daruma

Daruma Magazine is the only English language magazine devoted solely to Japanese art and antiques. It began publishing in 1994, with a mission to channel the more interesting of the innumerable articles in Japanese on arts and antiques to Westerners and other Asians who do not understand Japanese. The editorial content also includes original articles in English on Japanese art and antiques.

Daruma's Goals and Credo

We aim to make Japan's great contribution to world culture better known. We bless all scholars, collectors, dealers, dabblers, stores, sales and fairs in the field. We want each nation to keep its identity as the global village needs no cultural uniformity. We are blasted by ugliness in the media, so focus on the finer sides of life in Japan----old and new.

Daruma was a great Zen teacher; page 4 sometimes bears an image of Daruma to affirm, like him, the vitality of the human spirit and flaunt the variety artists have brought to the theme. Art enriches life and makes it worth living!

We hope readers will continue to give us hints for lively articles (good photos please!) and better distribution. Feedback is appreciated. Please tell us about your finds. Copyright exists on all articles and photographs.
